Many thanks to
Edana Cannon and all the participants at the Bowie Park
Stables My Horse My
Partner clinic in June. We had a lot of fun! Beginning
this month I'm taking
a few weeks break from the tour schedule (the first
break since February) and
it feels great to know I'll be home for a while. I
am, however, looking forward
to seeing many old and new faces this fall at
Power of a Whisper and My Horse
My Partner events, and at booksignings for
the new book, Horse Country: A Celebration
of Country Music and the Love of
Horses. I'm also doing some Success Within
seminars this fall, as well as
presenting corporate writing seminars.
Something
I haven't mentioned in a while is bone density scans. Everyone,
male and female,
age thirty and over should get one. It is covered by most
insurance plans and
is the best way to diagnose osteoporosis and its
precursor, osteopenia. While
osteoporosis (or brittle bones) is generally
thought of as something elderly
women have, there are many people in their
40s and 50s (including me) who have
osteoporosis or osteopenia. Prevention
is key and there are many things you
can do now that will stop or reverse
bone loss and extend your quality of life
well into your senior years. So if
you haven't already done so, please ask
your medical professional about a
bone density scan.
It's
hot here in Middle Tennessee, and I am sure in other areas as well.
Remember
that salt, shade and water will help your horses better tolerate
the heat.
Be sure to keep track of your body's responses to heat, too. Those
of us who
are continually on the go need to remember that it's okay to kick
back on the
porch or in front of the air conditioner with a cool glass of
ice tea.
Until next month, think positive thoughts,
Lisa

I have recently returned from Book Expo America in Los Angeles. This event is where the book industry meets to network and learn, and as always, it was fun, informative, and exhausting. Before that I was with Sam Powell in the Knoxville, Tennessee area where we had a great group of people for a Power of a Whisper event at STAR (Shangra-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding). We were the first event in STAR's fabulous new arena, which was very exciting!! The Power of a Whisper events are so much fun for me, as Sam and I have different approaches to horse problems, but we usually find our way to the same end result. People attending not only get to ask any horse question they want, they get several ideas to make their own situations with their horses better.
It was a surprise to return here to Middle Tennessee after several weeks to realize how hot it is. Summer has definitely arrived and with it, a reminder to all of us to be sure to keep an eye on our four-legged friends. Horses and pets may need more salt and shade, or even a cold sprinkle and some electrolytes. Horses especially love temperatures around 55 degrees, so the hot weather can be more taxing on their bodies than we realize.
We've recently made some nice changes to the monthly "Success Tips" newsletter. If you don't already receive this, which features information and ideas on personal and equestrian success, send an email to lisainfo@comcast.net with the word Subscribe in the subject box and we'll add you to the list.
Stay cool this summer!

Well
Mother Nature can't decide if it is winter or summer here in Middle
Tennessee.
It's been close to 90 and also down near 30. But fortunately we
have had a
very wet spring, although it has slowed our trail riders down
some, as there
is a lot of mud.
I want
to extend my thanks to all the great people I've met at clinics and
trainings
in Kentucky and Tennessee recently. It's been a busy spring
preparing for the
fall release of my newest book, Horse Country: Nashville's
Biggest Stars and
the Horses They Love, and doing clinics or trainings just
about every week.
I am very excited to be
the featured trainer for the month of May at
www.TheJudgesChoice.com.
This is a wonderful web site with equine art,
profiles, articles, sale ads
and much more. I hope you will take time to
check the site out, and to read
the great article done on me.
I
m also excited to announce the first online class of Lisa Wysocky's
Equestrian
Success University is forming. We are only taking 15 people for
this first
class, which begins in June and meets weekly through conference
calls for 12
weeks. Please email lisainfo@comcast.net
for more information.
There is information on this in the May newsletter, so
if you are not on the
email list, please drop us a line at lisainfo@comcast.net
to add your name.
This class will cover everything from teaching your horse
ground manners, to
learning how horses think, to goal setting, decision making
and time
management to help you achieve all that you can be with your equine
partner.
Remember to take
time for yourself. It is hard to accomplish all you want to
do if you are burned
out. Sometimes a quiet afternoon spent on the front
porch is all it takes.
And for those of you with horses, remember to watch
your horse's body language
closely. The smallest flick of an ear or turn of
a head can be a form of communication.
We humans so often ignore the signs
our four-legged friends (dogs and cats
included) are giving us, then we
wonder when problems develop.
May
is one of the prettiest months of the year in most parts of the country.
Enjoy
it!
Stay safe,
Lisa

Letter
from Lisa:
My sincere thanks to so many of you who have written to let
me know that the My Horse, My Partner book and/or DVD has made a difference in
your relationship with your favorite equine. It means a great deal to a writer
to know that a year or more of effort pays of in such positive ways. Thank you
all!
This past fall I met with readers in the Southeast, Southern California
and Central Florida. Please check my itinerary to see if I am coming to an area
near you soon. We are adding both equestrian events and corporate speaking dates
regularly.
I recently completed the manuscript for Horse Country: Nashville's
Biggest Stars and Their Horses (due from The Lyons Press in Fall 2008) and am
very excited to share these star's passionate stories of their love of horses
with you. Twenty-seven country stars are profiled, including Toby Keith, Willie
Nelson, Brad Paisley, Lynn Anderson, Eddie Montgomery, Kix Brooks, Tanya Tucker,
George Jones and Charlie Daniels.
In December I received a rare honor when
I was named by ARIA (the American Riding Instructors Association) as one of the
Top 50 riding instructors in the nation. There are so many exceptional and caring
instructors that it was a true highlight to be included on this list.
Whether
you are a horse person, rising up the corporate ladder, or are someone who wants
to live a more meaningful life, your letters and emails let me know that I am
making a difference, and that, to me, is what life is all about.

Letter from Lisa:
Welcome to my new and improved online home! We are in the process of streamlining the site and making various features more accessible, so please bear with us as we make these changes.
I am so excited to announce the release of both the book and DVD versions of My Horse, My Partner: Teamwork on the Ground. Between writing the book and filming the DVD, and then going through the editing process for both, I have spent the past several years on this project. Kudos and thanks to Jessie Shiers and the staff at The Lyons Press who turned my initial manuscript into a beautiful book and to Bruce Uher and MultiMedia-Interactive for an exhausting job in both pre- and post- production on the DVD. If they aren't there already, both should soon be at your favorite retail or online store. For more information, please click on the My Horse, My Partner covers on the home page.
It was an exceptionally hot and dry summer here in Nashville and we are dealing with a severe hay shortage, as well as many lost trees and landscaping. Most of the horses made it through the heat and drought very well, although we did a lot of hosing and early morning/late evening chores.
I have been doing a lot of corporate Success Within speaking presentations and meeting so many great people at these events. I can't tell you how much it means to me to have someone tell me that something in Success Within changed their life for the better. It truly is the best feeling in the world!
I am also meeting a lot of wonderful horse people at my clinics and seminars, and I find it interesting that no matter what the discipline, breed or experience of the rider, we all are basically looking for the same things: to learn, improve our horse experience, and have a great time in the process.
Here's to a fabulous fall season, wherever you may be,
Lisa
